{"id":138,"date":"2024-01-08T19:12:36","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T00:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bd.bioregionals.org\/?p=138"},"modified":"2024-01-08T19:12:36","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T00:12:36","slug":"nys-assemblyman-patrick-burke-introduces-great-lakes-bill-of-rights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bi.gflbioregion.org\/?p=138","title":{"rendered":"NYS Assemblyman Patrick Burke Introduces Great Lakes Bill of Rights"},"content":{"rendered":"<header>\n<h2 class=\"storysub\">The bill paves the way for litigation against polluters on behalf of the ecosystem<\/h2>\n<div class=\"story-date\">March 2, 2022<\/div>\n<\/header>\n<p><strong>Buffalo, NY \u2013 <\/strong>New York State Assemblyman Patrick Burke has introduced legislation that will create a Great Lakes Bill of Rights with the goal of securing legal rights for the entire ecosystem and giving people and nature a role in the decision-making process regarding current and future projects that impact the ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>The language was drafted with the assistance of the Community Environmental Legal Defense Fund (CELDF) at the invitation of Assemblyman Burke\u2019s office. CELDF has been at the forefront of Rights of Nature legislation for over 20 years.
